Why didn’t I do this sooner?! Why didn’t I switch to Mint Mobile for my cellular service provider?
As we have discussed in the past, I often review expenses. I review my budget and look for ways to save money.
Several years ago, when the kids were old enough to get phones, my ex-wife and I decided to “even out” our kids cell phone costs. One kids was on my cell phone plan, and the other kid was on my ex-wife’s plan.
I’m fortunate that I’m provided a company issued phone for all my business calls, and mobility needs. Since 2017, I dropped my personal cell phone from my plan. So, for my kid, I now have one single line, with 3GB of data at one of cell phone big boy carriers.
I had been paying $49.96 per month for one phone, one line and the bare minimum of data the plan allowed.
My kid has been very good on using wifi, and typically stays under the allotted 3GB of data.
I’ve been paying $49.96 per month, that’s $599.52 per year! So if you use math, that’s $1,199.04 for the last two years. YIKES!
I threw away $839.04 over the last two years using my previous cell plan!
If you’re like me, and follow Ryan Reynolds on IG because 1) he’s hilarious, and 2) he’s freaking Deadpool. You’ll also know that Ryan purchased an ownership stake in Mint Mobile. This is where I first heard of Mint Mobile.
Recently, I was listening to a podcast I heard an ad for Mint Mobile. Not only can you get service at $15 per month, you can just bring your own unlocked device! I immediately went to Mint Mobile and checked compatibility for my kid’s phone. Boom! There was no convincing. This was a no brainer. With this Mobile Carrier, you can get 3GB of data for only $15 per month! It’s true! You just pre-purchase three months for $15/month, and then if you dig it, you simply prepay for 12 months and continue to pay $15/mo LOVE IT!
Now, for my kid, I have one phone, one plan, for $15/mo or $180 per year! This means that I pissed away $839.04 over the last two years. Ugh….
