Hi. I’m Chris.
I Retired Early.
I Invest in Real Estate.
I Listen to Metal.
And yes — I believe those three things have everything to do with each other.
Welcome to Heavy Metal Money, where we talk about building real wealth without the boring suits, the condescending jargon, or the soul-crushing advice to “just cut your lattes.” We do things differently here.
How a Metalhead Became a Money Nerd
I Was Not Born a Financial Genius
Let’s get that out of the way immediately. I spent my 20s and 30s like a lot of people. By working hard, spending freely, and assuming retirement was something that happened to other people. You know, responsible people. People who didn’t spend their weekends in a mosh pit.
I’m a single dad to two adult kids, a retired enterprise tech guy from Minnesota, and a lifelong devotee of heavy metal music. None of those things scream “financial influencer.” And yet, here we are.
The Wake-Up Call
Somewhere in my late 30ss, it clicked. I was deep in the grind of enterprise tech — good salary, decent savings, but I had no real plan. I started reading everything I could get my hands on. FI/RE movement, index funds, real estate investing. And I realized something nobody had ever said to me clearly:
You don’t have to be rich to build wealth. You just have to be intentional.
That’s not a revolutionary idea. But it felt like one to me at the time. So I went all in.
Real Estate Changed Everything
I started investing in real estate through Luger Investment Group and Lakes Area Partners. Slowly, methodically, property by property. Today roughly half my net worth — about $2.5M — is invested in real estate holdings.
I’m not telling you this to flex. I’m telling you this because I was a regular dude from Minnesota who figured it out later than he should have. If I can do it, so can you. The math isn’t complicated. The discipline is the hard part.
Why Heavy Metal Money?
Because personal finance is boring as hell — and it doesn’t have to be. The same passion, intensity, and community you feel at a metal show? That’s what financial freedom can feel like when you actually get there.
I started this brand to be the financial content I wish had existed when I was in my 30s — real, direct, occasionally profane, and always practical. No gatekeeping. No condescension. Just the stuff that actually works, delivered with the energy of the front-row metal show!
Heavy Metal Money has grown into a blog, a podcast (the Extreme Personal Finance Show), a YouTube channel, and a Facebook community called the Heavy Metal Money Mosh Pit — thousands of metalheads building real wealth together.
