My HealthyWage Experience (Part 1)

In this post, I’m going to discuss healthy eating, weight loss, and being active. What does this have to do with personal finance? Well, I’m going to bet against myself with REAL MONEY that I can meet my fitness goals, and I’ll also win additional money!

The nature of this program is a site & app called HealthyWage.  You bet a dollar amount you’re willing to risk, that you’ll lose a specified percentage of body weight, by a certain date.  If you meet your goals, you receive all the money you wagered, plus an additional prize.

Let’s walk through my experience with HealthyWage so far, how it works, and how I’m tracking towards my goal.

The Covid 15 (Pounds)

I had told myself that I needed to lose my “COVID weight” Since working from home and hardly ever going out I had gained about 15lbs.  It’s true!  While still maintaining a fairly low carbohydrate lifestyle and not eating sugar, flour, or any sweets.  I was snacking at my desk constantly.  Many snacks were veggies, fruits, nuts, and cheese.  My daily calories were crazy high!

I began researching different motivations and incentives for sticking to a weight loss goal.  I had watched a bunch of YouTube videos and online reviews of this program called HealthyWage. Was this legit? According to many YouTubers, it was. So I pulled the trigger.   According to Woman’s Health Magazine, Money can be a motivator.

You can review the HealthyWage calculator to determine what. you can win based on what you’d like to healthfully lose. I’ll run down my individual plan.

Place Your Bets

I bet myself $200 per month that I’ll lose 14lbs by August 28th.  I tried to input I was going to lose 16lbs, but the site gave me an alert and stated that it more than 10% of your body weight in the duration selected. It deemed that unhealthy.

Once you toss in your payment info, Cha-Ching! They charge you your bet amount.  I’ll tell you this is motivating. Seeing that $200 being charged to my card every month is a reminder to STAY ON TASK!  My HealthyWage Challenge began in February.  So if (when) I complete my challenge I’ll win all of my money back, plus the additional money they offer you. This varies depending on any referrals, how much you are losing, how much you are betting, and how long it’s going to take you.

Win More Money

Do you need a little extra kick of motivation, and you wanna take a chance at even more winnings!?  They also have additional add-on Challenges. For example, they have Steps challenges. Achieve your the amount of steps goal and win part of the Jackpot!

Wait… wait… how does HealthyWage know?!  Oh, they know. You are required to upload a Verified weigh-in.  This is where you have someone else take a video of you in your drawers, doing a complete 360 (do the hokey-pokey and turn yourself around), ensuring you aren’t hiding any weights on your body, and proof you zero out your scale, and can clearly see the amount you weigh.  Then…You do it again! The entire process is done again to ensure you are honest. Once you upload your weigh-in data, and it’s approved, you are ready to begin your challenge.  Using the HealthyWage app you can do un-verified weigh-ins at any time to track progress.

Weightloss is Hard

I will be honest… it has been hard. I completely, and totally underestimated how hard it was going to be to drop that 14lbs. My weight has been fluctuating for the past couple of months.  I’ve been making progress, but I’ll need to kick it into high gear these next couple of months.

At the time of me writing this, I have two and a half months to lose nine pounds to achieve my goal.  If I fail to meet that goal and end up losing over $1500! I’ll be so upset with myself. Are you kidding me? I can’t… no I won’t let that happen.

I’m going to keep you posted and follow me on my socials as to my ongoing updates.  Let’s see if I can win my money back!

By the way! if you use my link to sign up you’ll get an extra prize added to your winnings!

  1. Keep up the good work. I tried Healthy Wage in 2019 and lost $450. I did it again in the spring of 2020 and wagered another $450 to win $1,4xx and lost the 60 pounds in the 6 months. I actually lost 80 pounds in 6 months. What a great day to get a check for $5xx more than i wagered.
